The Spanish La Liga resume with week 28 fixtures after the coronavirus enforced break, as we’ve done with the Bundesliga since its restart, we have decided to extend our weekly stats preview, and predictions articles to cover the La Liga.
Sevilla vs Real Betis
Currently behind the two football power houses in Spain, Sevilla will be hoping to make the most out of this game as they welcome Real Betis to the Estadio Ramon Sanchez.
Sevilla’s last game before the break ended in a 2-2 draw against Atletico Madrid, Betis on the other hand knocked Real Madrid off the top of the table with a 2-1 victory.
Sevilla have one loss in five La Liga games [2W, 2D, 1L]; both teams have scored in four of those games.

Sevilla have won 4 of the last seven games between these two teams [4W, 1D, 2L].
Both teams have scored in 5 of the last 7 games between them.
Sevilla have won the last two meetings regardless of the location; both teams hit the target and a minimum of three goals were scored on each occasion.
All the stats above are valid but we cannot ignore the fact that their fitness levels will not be at its peak.
Overall, Sevilla have better quality and are a better coordinated team, they should continue grind out a win in this game, albeit I think Real Betis will score.
Prediction: Sevilla 2-1 Real Betis
Granada vs Getafe
Getafe are shooting for the stars in the La Liga this season, they sit one point ahead of Atletico Madrid and finishing In European places looks achievable at this point.
Granada are a decent side themselves and they will be looking to improve on their present position in the league [9th].
A 1-0 loss to Atletico Madrid is Granada’s only defeat in five La Liga fixtures [2W, 2D, 1L].
Getafe have two wins in their last five league games [2W, 1D, 2L]; the two losses came back-to-back against Barcelona and Sevilla who are among the top three teams on the log.
These two sides are conservative when it comes to conceding goals; Granada have let in 3 goals in five game, Getafe have let In four goals in that time but considering the opponents [Barcelona and Sevilla] we can cut them some slack.
Granada have three wins in five home matches [3W, 1D, 1L].
Sevilla have won three of their last five away La Liga games [3W, 2L].
It’s usually a goal feast when these two teams meet; both teams have scored in six of the last seven meetings. A minimum of three goals have been scored in that period.
Granada have three wins in five home games against Getafe [3W, 1D, 1L].
There is very little to separate both teams, considering the lack of recent action and every available stats, I think both sides will settle for a draw in this game.
Prediction: Granada 1-1 Getafe
Valencia vs Levante
Levante are relatively in a safe spot on the table but they are not home and dry yet, Valencia on the other hand are three points short of European places, they still have a chance to sneak in.

Valencia have won four of the seven meetings between these teams [4W, 2D, 1L]; they’ve never lost to Levante when they are at home in the La Liga.
The stats are overwhelmingly in Valencia’s favor; the only uncertainty is the fitness level of the team which is pivotal for any football team to win a match.
Nevertheless, Valencia should do just about enough to get maximum points against Levante.
Prediction: Valencia 2-1 Levante
Espanyol vs Depotivo Alaves
Alaves are seven points clear of the relegation zone and will be hoping to further distance themselves the relegation battle.
Espanyol are bottom of the league having struggled to combine European football with La Liga duties.

Espanyol have one win in five games [1W, 2D, 2L]; both teams have scored of those games.

Two of the last three meetings have seen both teams scored; both games ended 2-1 with the home team winning.
Espanyol have been so poor, they’ve only won once at home all season.
Deportivo Alaves have two win in thirteen away La Liga fixtures this season.
This game is a meeting between two poor teams; Alaves seem better on the basis of league standings and form.
However, Espanyol will be looking to begin their relegation-escape plot with this game, they are currently six points away from safety, a win in this game will do them good and I think they’ll get it.
Prediction: Espanyol 2-0 Deportivo Alaves
Celta Vigo vs Villarreal
Villareal are seven points off the last European spot in the La Liga, Celta Vigo are one point above relegation places; they seem to have turned the corner with decent performances before the league was suspended.

Celta Vigo have won the last three meetings, Villarreal have won four of the last seven meetings [4W 3L].
There has been no draw between these teams in seven recent meetings.
Celta Vigo will be hoping to escape relegation but Villarreal are a dangerous opponent and could jeopardize that hope.
Iago Aspas is the main threat for Celta, he is their highest goal scorer in the La Liga this season with 9 goals, that’s 6 goals ahead of the next person, Santi Mina who has 3 goals.
Villarreal have different goal scoring options in Gerard Moreno, Santi Cazorla, Toko Ekambi and even Samuel Chukwueze, although the Nigerian has not performed to expectation this season.
My thought is that both teams will share the spoils come Saturday.
Prediction: Celta Vigo 2-2 Villarreal
Leganes vs Real Valladolid
Leganes are second from bottom in the league, every game and points they can get will be crucial to their survival.
Real Valladolid are not assured themselves but they will take solace in the fact that they are four points ahead of the relegation zone; whatever happens in this game, Valladolid will remain outside the drop zone.

Leganes have won six of the last ten matches against Real Valladolid, although the last meeting between them ended in a draw.
Leganes have won five of the last seven meetings [5W, 1D, 1L].
Leganes are well backed by the records and stats to win this game and I believe their position on the log will further fuel their determination to win.
Prediction: Leganes 2-0 Real Valladolid
Mallorca vs Barcelona
Lionel Messi is back to fitness to give Barcelona a huge boost as they prepare to take-on relegation threatened Mallorca.
There’s little or nothing the home side can do to change their fortune in this game not just because of the opponent but also due to the Lionel Messi factor. Very few teams have the capacity to nullify the Argentine’s threat.
Mallorca have two wins in five La Liga fixtures [2W, 1D, 2L].

Barcelona are obviously the better team on every ground and stat.
With a fully fit Lionel Messi in the squad the job of winning becomes easier for his manager and teammates.
Barcelona should win this game easily and by a few goals, Messi will most likely welcome us back with a goal [or couple of goals].
Prediction: Mallorca 0-3 Barcelona
Athletic Bilbao vs Atletico Madrid
The home side will be without Adrian Aduriz after the striker was forced to retire before the end of the season due to an injury that will require surgery.
Atletico Madrid will be hoping to carry on with the form that saw them defeat Liverpool twice in the Uefa Champions League before the break.

Atletico have been poor on the road this season, they’ve only 3 wins away from home thus far.
Atletico Madrid find themselves in an unfamiliar position [7th] on the league table but they’ve done well for themselves in Europe.
Bilbao are a strong team too which sets this game up to be the key fixture of match-day 28.
It should be a tight game as both sides will be looking not to lose.
Prediction: Athletic Bilbao 1-1 Atletico Madrid

Real Madrid have won the last two meetings, there has been a minimum of 3 goals in five recent games between these two.
Eibar have never defeated Real Madrid away from home [1D, 4L]; they’ve won only once on the road this season.
Luka Jovic is the only absentee for Real Madrid ahead of this game, all their players are back to fitness including Marco Asensio who was out for a lengthy period.
There is an excellent aura around the team and Zinedine Zidane’s reformed attack consisting of Asensio, Benzema and Eden Hazard will be looking to run Eibar ragged.
Prediction: Real Madrid 3-0 Eibar
