Juventus defeats Inter for Serie A throne
Inter Milan, the current Serie A leaders are put to the test when they face Juventus. Inter, who look hopeful to push their 6 consecutive league run to 7 in as many matches. A win at San Siro would mean that they retain their top spot and increase the gap to 5pts. However, a win for Juventus sends them to the top of the log and they regain their regular spot. Juventus regains top spot in the Serie A table as they hand Inter their first loss of the Season with goals from Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain.
The first half of the game kicked off at San Siro and Juventus made their statement of command in possession. Biaconneri were off to a great start with a goal from Paulo Dybala from an impressive counter attacking play. A great through ball by Miralem Pjanic sets up Paulo Dybala inside the box, and he makes no mistake and bangs the ball into the bottom right corner. Minutes later, Cristiano Ronaldo looked like scoring but had his sublime effort hit the crossbar. On the 18th minute, Inter pulls level with a goal from a controversial penalty scored by Lautaro Martinez. A VAR decision on a handball by Matthijs De Ligt was all that was needed to get Inter their equalizer.
Injury concerns proves the bigger villain for the host as they lost their talisman Stefano Sensi in 31st minute. Matias Vecino replaces Sensi who was unable to continue. 10 minutes later, Roanldo’s goal gets his goal cancelled by a VAR decision for offside on Paulo Dybala. The first half ends with both teams level at the end of the half.
The Second half begins moments later after the break. The visitors, Juventus did so much to keep the pressure on Inter with a couple of clear chances at goal. Samir Handanovic plays hero for the umpteenth time in the night by making a superb save to stop a low shot from Dybala from giving Juventus the lead.
Gonzalo Higuain, the unlikely hero for Juventus come in as a substitute for Federico Bernadeschi in the 62nd minute. Higuain finds himself free in the area and needed Rodrigo Bentacur to pick him out. He makes no mistake and strike the ball in the bottom left corner to give Juventus the lead. On the 86th minute, Wojciech Szczesny pulls up a great save to stop a shot from Matias Vecino and retain the lead for the visitors. The goal in the final 10 minutes of the match gives Juventus the win they deserved.
