Bundesliga: Match-day 29 stats, preview and predictions

Due to some unavoidable circumstances, we are unable to cover Freiburg vs Bayer Leverkusen in our match-day 29 Bundesliga preview, we sincerely apologise.

Regardless of these circumstances, we have been able to preview all the other matches this weekend and we hope you find our analysis useful.

Wolfsburg vs Eintracht Frankfurt

While other teams are undecided about their push for the last European spot in the Bundesliga, Wolfburg are doing their best to hold onto it.

Eintracht Frankfurt are languishing in 14th position with 29 points from 27 games.

Wolfsburg have one loss in five league games [2W, 2D, 1L], they’ve scored a minimum of 2 goals in 3 of their last five games.

The Wolves have won 1 of their last 5 home games [1W, 2D, 2L], keeping 2 cleansheets in the process.

Eintracht Frankfurt have 1 point in 5 league games, failing to keep a cleansheet in all of those games.

They’ve conceded at least 3 times in their last four games.

Eintracht have 2 goals in their last 3 away games, they’ve let in 13 goals over the same period.

Wolfsburg have won 4 of their last 7 matches against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Both teams have scored in 4 of their last 5 meetings.

Wolfsburg have 2 losses in 18 home games [10W, 6D, 2L].

Eintracht have conceded 8 goals against Wolfsburg in 4 recent games.

There has never been a nil nil draw between these two in 17 meetings.

Frankfurt have won just two of their last 14 games against Wolfsburg.

The stats and history hint at a game of goals, Wolfsburg’s recent form and the trend between the two teams tilt the tie heavily in their favour.

Prediction: Wolfsburg 2-1 Eintracht Frankfurt

Hertha BSC vs Augsburg

Both are unbeaten since the return of the Bundesliga which sets us up nicely for a well contested tie.

Four points separate Hertha BSC [10TH position] from Augsburg [12th position] on the log.

Hertha are unbeaten in five league games including a 4nil win in the Berlin derby and a 2-2 draw at 3rd placed Liepzig.

Hertha have scored at least two goals in five of their recent matches, they have one win in five home games [1W, 2D, 2L].

Augsburg have one win in five recent games [1W, 1D, 3L], they’ve conceded at least two goals in three of their last five games.

Four of the last seven outings between these two have ended in a draw, both teams have scored in 4 of the last 5.

Hertha BSC are unbeaten against Augsburg at home in all competitions.

There have been more draws [9] in matches between these two teams than wins [8].

A minimum of three goals have been scored in four recent games between these them.

Hertha BSC have got form on their side but this game is one of the few games that is more likely to end in a statement than a win by either sides, we will most likely witness a flood of goals, at least two.

Prediction: Hertha BSC 2-2 Augsburg

Mainz vs Hoffenheim

Mainz are still unable to buy a win since the return of the Bundesliga, Hoffenheim bagged their first three points but it wasn’t enough to upsurge Wolfsburg in 6th place.

Mainz have drawn 3 of their last 5 games [1W, 3D, 1L], they’ve conceded a minimum all of their last five matches.

Hoffenheim’s 3-1 win against Koln is their only win in five games [1W, 2D, 2L], they’ve conceded in all of those games.

Both teams have scored in 3 of Mainz’s 5 recent matches, Hoffenhiem have the same record.

Mainz have one win in seven matches on home turf [1W, 2D, 4L], Hoffenheim have drawn their last 3 away games.

They [Hoffenheim] last won away from home in January, since then they’ve played 5 away games losing 2 and drawing 3.

Mainz have won two of the last three meeting, both teams have found the back of the next five of their recent matches.

At least three goals has been scored in six of the last seven games between these two.

Home advantage is at its all-time low in the Bundesliga due to the lack of fans in the stadium, Hoffenheim will sense they’ve a chance to grab maximum points here despite Mainz’s recent head-to-head performance.

Prediction: Mainz 1-2 Hoffenheim

Schalke 04 vs Werder Bremen

David Wagner is under pressure to ensure Schalke return to winning ways soon else he will lose his job, his team are winless in 10 league games and have lost four of the last five.

Werder Bremen have shown good signs in their nlast two outings but are still one of the favourites to be relegated.

Schalke have one point from a possible 15, the last time they won a Bundesliga game was in January.

Werder Bremen have won 1 of their last five games, they’ve conceded at least twice in 3 of their previous 5 games,

Schalke have conceded at least twice in 6 of their last 7 matches.

Werder Bremen have won 4 of the last 5 between these two teams, both teams have scored in 4 of the last 6 outings between them.

Schalke won the first leg of this tie and even though Werder Bremen have won most the recent meetings.

Schalke are in a precarious situation currently, dropping further points could be disastrous not just for the manager but for the team as a whole, their form has been abysmal for a team of Schalke’s stature.

I believe strongly they will turn the corner with this game and give their fans something to cheer about.

Prediction: Schalke 2-0 Weder Bremen

Bayern Munich vs Fortuna Dusseldorf

The result of the Der Klassiker mean Bayern move seven points clear at the top of the league after they beat Dortmund 1nil at the Signal-Iduna Park.

The Bavarians can see the finish the line right now but I expect them not to show even the slightest sign of complacency.

Fortuna Dusseldorf are one point short of safety but I’m not sure they will be able to get anything from this weekend’s match.

Robert Lewandowski has never scored against Fortuna Dusseldorf making Saturday’s opponent the only opposition he’s yet to score against (expect him to break the jinx).

Bayern Munich have not conceded in 5 of their last 6 games, they’ve won 13 of their last 14 games in all competitions.

Fortuna Dusseldorf have drawn 4 of their last 5 Bundesliga matches [1W, 4D], they’ve conceded in 4 of the last 5 games.

Bayern have won 6 of the last 7 games, they’ve scored a minimum of 2 goals in all of those 7 games.

Verdict: Dusseldorf shouldn’t pose any threat to Bayern’s title charge and of course expect Lewandowski to pop in with some goals.

Prediction: Bayern Munich 3-0 Fortuna Dusseldorf.

Borussia M’gladbach vs Union Berlin

Four points separate M’gladbach from Dortmund who are in second place, they’ll probably be disappointed by the draw against Werder Bremen in match-day 27.

Union Berlin are not too far off from the relegation, a bad run could sink them in relegation waters in no time.

Both teams to score in 3 of the last 5 Bundesliga games involving M’gladbach, they’ve won 3 matches in that period [2W, 1D, 2L].

Union Berlin have lost 4 of their last 5 [1D, 4L], both teams have scored in 3 of the last 5 games involving them.

M’gladbach have won 2 of their last 5 home games [2W, 1D, 2L], both teams have scored in all five of those games.

Union Berlin have lost 3 of their last away games [2W, 3L], they’ve conceded a minimum of three goals in 4 of their last 6 games.

M’gladbach got a good result against Bayer Leverkusen but remain in 5th place, with Bayern seemingly champions in waiting, the race for a top 4 finish is well in course, three points against Union Berlin is not negotiable for M’gladbach if they are going to make the top 4.

Prediction: Borussia M’gladbach 3-0 Union Berlin

Paderborn vs Dortmund

Erling Halaand is expected to sit out this game due to injury, Paderborn meanwhile are destined for relegation and Dortmund have more or less submitted the title to Bayern Munich with the result of their midweek match.

Paderborn have drawn their last 3 matches in all competitions [3D, 2L], they’ve failed to find the back of the net in 3 of their last five games.

Dortmund have lost one of their last seven games, they’ve won 4 of their last 5 away matches and scored a minimum of 2 goals in all of those games.

Paderborn have lost 4 of their 5 recent home games [1D, 4L], they’ve conceded in all of their last 7 home games.

Dortmund have scored 16 goals in 3 games against Paderborn, both teams have scored in the last 3 outings between them.

There’s been a minimum of 3 goals in the last six meetings between them.

Dortmund will miss their talisman but should still be good value for the win, Jadon Sancho is slowly regaining proper match fitness and it should give the entire team a lift to down Paderborn with ease.

Prediction: Paderborn 1-3 Dortmund

Koln vs Leipzig

Koln lost 3-1 to Hoffenheim in the last game-week, while Leipzig suffered a late set back to draw 2-2 against Hertha Berlin.
The one thing that these two sides have in common over the last three Bundesliga match-days is goals.
The flood gates of goals have been wide open in games featuring any of these teams since the Bundesliga resumed.
Both teams have scored in Koln’s last five games, a minimum of three goals were scored in each of those games.
Koln’s last three games have produced 16 goals; however they’ve only won one of their last five games.
Both teams have found the back of the net in three of Leipzig’s last five games.
Liepzig’s last three games have produced 11 goals; although they’ve drawn four of their last five league games.
Koln is unbeaten in six of their last seven games a home [4W, 2D, 1L]; they’ve drawn their last two home fixtures and the only blemish on their home record is a 4-1 defeat to Bayern Munich back in February.
Liepzig have three wins in seven away games, they’ve scored 10 goals in their last three away outings and conceded none.
Koln have never won on home patch against Leipzig, the latter have three wins in five meetings between them.
Both teams have scored in all five recent matches between these two teams.
Leipzig could jump to third if they get all 3 points from this game, stats favor both teams to score and we should witness at least three goals.
Koln are strong at home but they seem to be suffering from lack of match fitness and concentration, Leipzig should take them to the cleaners.
Prediction: Koln 1-3 Liepzig
