Bartomeu seeks a way to sign Neymar
Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu is seeking ways to seal a dream move for Neymar Jr. He considers the Brazilian winger the key to future successes at the club.
Bartomeu wants to win the Champions League in his last year in office as he steps down next year. However, believes that getting Neymar back to the club will give the squad a huge boost it desperately needs.
Key members of the dressing room such as Lionel Messi, Gerard Pique and Luis Suarez would be particularly delighted given their are good friends with the Brazilian. The fans would also be even more euphoric.
Although, the dreams of getting Neymar back at Barcelona are on the optimistic side, all would be excited about it. Not until you consider the financial aspects of the deal.
Limitations to the Neymar to Barcelona move
The first problem is the transfer fee for Neymar. The Brazilian can look to the FIFA ruling which would allow him to request a departure and buy out the remainder of his contract. The contract buyout price which as Neymar’s former agent Wagner Ribeiro stated on Saturday is around 164 million euros.
That is a price Barcelona cannot afford to pay right now. Before the coronavirus pandemic, it could have been considered. However, with the current economic situation at all clubs, losses are going to be incurred, thus making it almost impossible.
The second stumbling block is the player’s wages. Neymar costs Paris Saint-Germain 70 million euros gross per season.

That is a figure Barcelona cannot pay in any way as their budget for salaries will not allow it. Therefore, the player might have to lower his salary demands which will not be easy.
Looking to strike a deal which involves players, that up until now, Bartomeu has not been able to do as the overall cost of the transfer is around 500m euros.
This was tried last summer, but as was shown, it is not an easy task as footballers like to be in control of their own destiny.
