Bartomeu resigns as Barcelona president

Josep Maria Bartomeu has stepped aside from his position as Barcelona president after a vote of no-confidence and rumored rift with Lionel Messi.

Bad decisions and poor results on the pitch ensured Bartomeu lost support of the fans and the board.

These controversies have marred his tenure and he’ll go down as one of the worst president in the history of Barcelona.

Rumors of Bartomeu leaving Barcelona have been strong in the last few months – disagreement with Lionel Messi and other senior members of the squad didn’t help his cause either.

This looks like yet another off-the-field win for Messi who almost always have his way with everything at Barcelona.

Does this mean Messi stays?

Its no secret that club captain Lionel Messi was eager top leave Barcelona in the last transfer window due to problems between him and the leadership of the club.
Fans rallied round to heap pressure on the board to keep the most iconic player in the club’s history.
Many called for Maria Bartomeu to resign as a result but he was able to keep Messi and hold his position as president.
The Argentine’s contract is up at the end of the season and sources say his mind is made up to exit Barcelona at the end of his contract.
Now that Bartomeu is out of the picture, it may be the first step towards extending Messi’s contract.
I can imagine that’d be the first agenda on the to-do list of Barcelona’s next president.
Especially as elections are due to hold very soon.
